CELLULAR

Gud Mawnin! I woke up early today and as i dont have anything better to do..guess what? I watched a dvd movie...*yawns* (yeah yeah im a lazy head..but there is nothing else to do at 4 im the morning)
So, i picked up some random movie from the ones my dad just bought. I watched CELLULAR . It was a thriller featuring Kim Bassinger and Chris Evans. Oh boy, Chris Evans is so cute! Anyways, here's the synopsis:

Jessica Martin (Kim Basinger) is a high school science teacher and
mother whose peaceful life is turned upside down when she is kidnapped from her
home by five unknown assailants and taken to a mysterious location. Fearful for
her life and completely in the dark as to her abductors' motives, Jessica
manages to patch together a shattered telephone and secretly place a call to an
unknown number in a last-ditch attempt to save herself. Ryan (Chris Evans), the
carefree young man who answers the panicked call, suddenly finds himself
Jessica's last hope.

With no knowledge of Jessica other than her hushed,
fearful voice on the other end of the tenuous phone connection, Ryan is quickly
thrown into a world of deception and murder in a frantic search to find and save
her. The lives of Jessica and her family are in his hands, but what is waiting
for him on the other side of the line and what will it cost him to find out?

Ok, im not really here to write about how cute he is in the movie (but he is really cute....you know? *giggles*).

He was using the same cellphone in the movie as what I currently have. (Nokia 6600) That phone and the technology it provided played a big part in saving the lives of Jessica and her family.

So back to why i was writing this blog. I cant live without my cellphone! It's more that just a phone to me . I use it as my alarm clock, an mp3 player, a camcorder, a voice recorder, a game station, a camera, and a lot lot more! How else would i be able to take candid pictures anytime? or take videos of myself and my friends screaming on top of our lungs while on a roller coaster? or listen to music while im stuck on traffic in EDSA, or know the exact location of my brothers, or how am i gonna connect to the internet if i am away from my pc?? HOW?! With my phone of course! isnt it amazing how a lot can be integrated in one small device? Talk about mobile convergence. It's an entertainment/communication gadget in one! It keeps me connected anytime, anywhere, anyhow.

As with any new technology, it has it good and bad sides. It keeps us within reach 24/7. It is very handy for emergencies and unexpected things. (How else could families could have contacted each other during the 9/11 tragedy or how the kids could have called their parents when they were being held hostage inside their school?). But it also compromises our privacy. Dont you see people talking on their phones everywhere? Like inside the mrt, inside restaurants, waiting sheds, malls, cars, movie houses, concerts? isnt it annoying to be disrupted by some people talking loudly on their phones? or when you unintentionally hear their phone conversation?
Or what about people taking pictures of you without you knowing it? It can be pretty scary.. It also kind of makes us detached from the real world. It takes away having "real" conversations. Isnt it better to actually see the person you are talking to? To look them in the eyes or see their body language? I would rather prefer that than talk to the air and feel the cold metal of the phone on my face.

hmm..so, don't i like my phone? of course i do! I LOVE IT! But i make sure my life doesnt revolve around it. Im not gonna spend a lot to buy the latest one just to be "in" and part of the "cool" crowd. No way. As long as it serves its purpose...Im all good. :)
